Where Chalk Meets Clay: Inspired by the Seven Sisters

At Earthlayers, every collection begins with a real landscape. We look at its colors, textures, and natural changes, then translate those details into pieces made for everyday life.

Our White Cliffs collection was inspired by the Seven Sisters, a series of white chalk cliffs along the coast of East Sussex.

A Landscape Defined by White

From a distance, the cliffs appear bright white. Seen more closely, the chalk reveals softer shades of ivory, cream, and warm gray, with weathered lines and natural shadows adding depth.

This softened white became the starting point for the collection.

Translating the Cliffs Into Glaze

Rather than choosing a cold or perfectly uniform white, we selected a warm off-white glaze with fine speckling and subtle tonal variation.

The pale surface reflects the natural color of the chalk cliffs, while the exposed clay around the base reveals the material beneath the glaze.

This contrast between white and clay became the defining feature of the design. It keeps each piece simple and modern while adding warmth and natural character.

Designed for Everyday Life

The warm neutral surface allows food to stand out and pairs easily with linen, wood, clear glassware, and simple table settings.

For Earthlayers, bringing nature to the table does not mean copying a landscape exactly. It means noticing the colors, textures, and contrasts that make a place memorable, then carrying those details into something we can use every day.

The White Cliffs collection brings together soft chalk white and warm natural clay in a design inspired by the English coastline.
