Bringing Nature’s Beauty Into Everyday Dining
At Earthlayers, we believe the beauty of nature can transform everyday moments.
Our design journey begins with landscapes that create a feeling — the colors of a forest, the texture of natural surfaces, and the quiet connection between people and the environment.
For this collection of ceramic dinner plates, we found inspiration in Yakushima Island, Japan.
Known for its ancient cedar forests, soft moss-covered landscapes, and peaceful atmosphere, Yakushima represents a unique harmony between nature and time. Its quiet beauty became the foundation for our design.
The Inspiration Behind Yakushima Island Moss
Yakushima’s beauty exists in the details.
The soft green moss covering stones, the changing light through the forest canopy, and the natural textures created over centuries all inspired the elements of this collection.
Soft Green Colors From the Forest
The colors of moss are gentle, layered, and constantly changing.
Inspired by these natural tones, we created green ceramic plates with a calm moss-inspired glaze. The subtle colors bring warmth and a peaceful feeling to the dining table, creating a closer connection with nature.
Natural Textures Inspired by Moss
Moss grows slowly across stones and tree roots, creating unique patterns over time.
This idea influenced the surface details of our stoneware plates. Instead of perfect uniformity, we embraced natural variations that make each piece feel unique.
Turning a Forest Landscape Into Ceramic Design
Creating nature-inspired tableware is not simply about copying a landscape. It is about capturing its atmosphere.
The organic shapes, soft curves, and textured surfaces of this collection reflect the balance found in Yakushima’s forests.
The glaze plays an important role in this expression. Through careful ceramic firing techniques, each piece develops subtle variations in color and texture.
This is the beauty of handmade ceramic craftsmanship — small differences become part of the story.
Bringing the Forest Into Your Home
A dining table is more than a place for meals. It is where people gather, slow down, and create memories.
The Yakushima Island Moss collection was designed to bring the peaceful feeling of an ancient forest into everyday life.

Bringing Nature’s Stories Home
Every landscape has a story.
Yakushima reminds us that beauty is often found in the smallest details — a layer of moss, a ray of sunlight, or the texture of an ancient tree.
At Earthlayers, we continue exploring the natural world and transforming these moments into thoughtful designs.
Through nature inspired dinnerware and careful craftsmanship, we hope to bring a sense of connection between your home and the beauty of the world around us.
