From Cappadocia to the Table
At Earthlayers, every collection begins with a real landscape. We look at the colors, textures, and natural forces that shape a place, then translate those details into pieces designed for everyday life.
Our Cappadocia collection began with the volcanic valleys of central Türkiye.
A Landscape Shaped by Time
Cappadocia is known for its winding valleys, rounded ridges, and tall rock formations often called fairy chimneys. Layers of volcanic material were gradually shaped by rain, wind, and ice, creating the sculpted landscape seen today.
What drew us in was the contrast within the stone. Sunlit areas appear in soft shades of sand, cream, and warm beige, while the shaded valleys reveal muted gray and deeper mineral tones.
Rather than copying the shape of the landscape, we focused on the colors and surface details that give it its character.
Translating the Landscape Into Glaze
The Cappadocia collection pairs a soft sand-beige upper glaze with a muted stone-gray lower glaze. The warmer tone reflects the sunlit surfaces of the valley, while the deeper gray recalls the shadows and volcanic stone found throughout the region.
This contrast gives each piece a sense of depth while keeping the overall palette soft and easy to use.
We chose a reactive glaze to bring movement to the surface. Subtle changes in tone and texture prevent the finish from feeling completely flat or uniform. The result feels natural and layered without relying on printed patterns or decorative imagery.
Fine speckling adds another connection to the landscape, recalling mineral deposits and the weathered texture of stone shaped slowly over time.
Designed for Everyday Life
Although the inspiration comes from an ancient landscape, the final design is made for modern, everyday meals.
The warm neutral colors work easily with different foods and table settings. Fresh vegetables, pasta, bread, desserts, and colorful sauces stand out against the muted surface, while the stone-gray base gives each piece a grounded finish.
For us, bringing nature to the table does not mean recreating a landscape exactly. It means noticing what makes a place distinctive—its colors, textures, light, and sense of time—and carrying those details into something we can use every day.
The Cappadocia collection brings together the warmth of sunlit sand and the depth of volcanic stone, turning the character of the landscape into a simple and lasting design.
