From Canopy to Clay: Inspired by the Amazon Rainforest

At Earthlayers, every collection begins with a real landscape. We look at its colors, textures, and natural changes, then translate those details into pieces made for everyday life.

Our Amazon Rainforest collection began with the deep, layered greens of the forest.

A Landscape of Layered Color

The Amazon is not one single shade of green. Its landscape connects dense rainforest, winding rivers, wetlands, and seasonally flooded forests.

From above, the canopy can appear dark and continuous. Closer to the ground, the colors become more varied. Brighter leaves catch the light, while shaded branches, wet bark, riverbanks, and water introduce softer shades of moss, olive, brown, and clay.

These layered natural colors became the starting point for the collection.

Translating the Forest Into Glaze

Rather than choosing a bright or artificial green, we selected a muted moss tone with warm olive and earthy undertones.

The deeper green reflects the shaded layers of the canopy, while the warmer areas recall wet bark, clay-rich riverbanks, and the earth beneath the forest.

Subtle movement and fine markings beneath the glaze add depth without creating an obvious printed pattern. They suggest overlapping leaves, flowing water, and the dense layers of vegetation found throughout the rainforest.

The warm clay visible near the base creates a natural contrast with the green surface and strengthens the connection between canopy and earth.

Small changes in tone and texture appear differently across each shape. Wide plates make the surface movement more visible, while the curved sides of bowls allow deeper green tones to gather around the form.

Designed for Everyday Life

The muted green gives the collection a strong natural character while remaining easy to use.

Pasta, grains, bread, vegetables, roasted dishes, and colorful sauces stand out against the darker surface. The olive and clay undertones also pair naturally with wood, neutral linens, and simple table settings.

For Earthlayers, bringing nature to the table does not mean copying a landscape exactly. It means noticing the colors, textures, and contrasts that make a place memorable, then carrying those details into something we can use every day.

The Amazon Rainforest collection brings together moss green, warm earth, and layered surface movement in a design inspired by the meeting of canopy, water, and clay.
